|Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) Suspends Internship for Nurses, Doctors, Others by Peculiar005(m): Fri Aug 2021 02:52pm|
The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar has suspended internship for one month. This is due to security issues according to the hospital in a memo signed by the Director of Administration, Mr Ededet Eyoma.
This is coming after the current interns embarked on protests twice to push their for their unpaid salaries.
Insider sources informed newsmen that the interns are being owed ten months of internship salary. While the delay in salaries continues with no end in sight, their counterparts, the House Officers (Medical Doctors in internship) have been receiving prompt salaries. This made them resort to a peaceful demonstration leading to the temporary suspension till September 2021.
A member of Parcelmedico who is also an intern in the said hospital is advising prospective interns to be wary of UCTH. He said "From the UCTH Calabar, this is what is obtainable. Suspending Interns in their 10th month without pay? Who does that? This is very inhuman! Frustrating people....increased pain and penury. Mind you, if you're a prospective intern, be warned!!! Your junior colleagues should be properly guided. This is the highest a facility of this nature could offer! It's unfortunately unfortunate!!!"
UCTH is a Federal Hospital accredited and cash-backed by the federal government for Internship and Housemanship.
